Hanoi (VNA)Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan stressed the need to promote public private partnerships (PPP) for green agriculture growth while addressing the Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture in Vietnam (PSAV) plenary in Hanoi on December 5.

The move could help attract more investment from the private sector, and both domestic and foreign enterprises, to restructure the industry and transform it towards ecological and sustainable agriculture, Hoan said.

The new global economy requires agricultural products to be produced responsibly, especially in terms of biodiversity conservation and emission reduction to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change.

With its Strategy for Agricultural and Rural Development for 2030 with a vision to 2050, Vietnam advocates accelerating agricultural restructuring, transforming from a ‘production mindset’ to an ‘economic mindset’ towards ‘green values’ generated from ‘green transformation, green consumption, and a green economy’.

At the event, delegates and experts were updated Vietnam's policies to promote investment in green agriculture and climate change adaptation; summarised PPP activities implemented in 2022; and joined a public-private dialogue on business expectations for government policies to support the private sector in green agriculture development.

In addition, Nguyen Do Anh Tuan, Director of PSAV Secretariat, and Director of International Cooperation Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, signed a Memoranda of Understanding on cooperation with Grow Asia and Syngenta. These documents will help the parties strengthen cooperation in the PPP form for Vietnam's agriculture sector.

The PSAV was established in 2010 under the "New Vision for Agriculture 2020" approach to the 20-20-20 objective, which is a 20% increase in productivity, 20% reduction in poverty, and 20% reduction in emissions. The PSAV focuses on linking actors in the agriculture sector to share experiences and collaborate on the value chain development of key agricultural commodities in Vietnam in the form of PPP./.
